Working with communities to tackle crime

We work closely with residents to try to prevent crime and tackle local issues. These are some of the ways we do this.

Safer Barnsley Partnership

The Safer Barnsley Partnership is a statutory partnership. It's been set up to tackle crime and disorder on a multi agency basis across the borough. It has a legal requirement to make a strategic plan. This addresses the issues affecting the quality of life for residents.

The partnership brings together:

Partners and communities together (PACT)

PACT meetings take place monthly. They're attended by a range of agencies that help to fix issues like anti social behaviour and neighbourhood crime.

Members from the crime and safety sub groups and members of the public are invited to attend PACT meetings. The times and locations of these meetings vary to help give everyone a chance to attend.

Discussions are based on issues that have been brought to the last meeting.  New issues will then be addressed by the range of agencies, including the police. PACT meetings are a chance for the community to impact the local policing priorities. This is done with the chair, or someone who represents these meetings also attending the Multi Agency Action Group (MAAG) meetings for that location.

Details of meetings and events taking place in your area can be found on your Neighbourhood Policing Teams web page. Please check back before a meeting to ensure that meeting times have not changed.

For further detail contact Safer Neighbourhood Service by email at safer@barnsley.gov.uk or South Yorkshire Police on 101.

Community Challenge Board

We're working with South Yorkshire Police to recruit volunteers to be part of a community challenge board. The board will scrutinize, challenge and give feedback to groups involved in looking into problems like:

  • hate and harassment
  • anti-social behaviour
  • vulnerable people
