Article: Councillors - surgeries Article Body Surgeries or face-to-face advice meetings are often held by Councillors in order to provide a forum where specific ward-based issues, raised by local people, can be identified. Surgeries these days do not follow a prescriptive format, and can be in the form of ward-walks around the local streets or more formal sit down meetings. They continue to be an important means of exercising the ward representative function giving residents the opportunity to raise personal issues in a more private setting than at a public meeting. Issues raised in members advice sessions can be escalated to Area Partnership level, where they are addressed by senior service Area Coordinators who act as advocates, and provide an interface with all parts of an area. (Area Coordinators often support members at their surgeries, and if preferred, residents can take issues up directly with them). All issues raised are included in the authoritys information strategy, to contribute to organisational learning and improvement.
