A Barnsley womans environmental offences have cost her over £300 following a case brought to Barnsley Magistrates court by Barnsley Council.
On Thursday, 26 January, Miss Toyah Pritchard, 31, of Royd Avenue, Millhouse Green, Penistone, pleaded guilty to an offence of fly-tipping waste under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 33 (1a).
The council received a report in February 2011, that waste had been dumped on a track off Annat Royd Lane, near Ingbirchworth reservoir, Penistone. A Regulatory Services field officer investigated the matter and found evidence in the waste which lead them to an uninhabited property in Deepcar, Sheffield.
Speaking to with the managing agent of the property, officers discovered that a cleaning company had been hired the month before, January 2011, to get the property fit and ready for letting.
Officers interviewed employees from the cleaning company about the fly-tipping. One of the companies employees, Miss Pritchard, admitted to fly-tipping a chair and some bags of household waste from the property in Deepcar.
Miss Pritchard received a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to repay the full £180 cost of clearing the waste, as well as to pay £150 towards the councils prosecution costs.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Development, Environment and Culture (Operations) said; Employees of a cleaning company should know better than to get rid of waste in this way. The waste was dumped in an area of outstanding natural beauty and these areas are extremely valuable to our communities.
