Article Body

The Directorate for Children, Young People and Families and schools in Barnsley produce various plans. Some of these, legislation requires us to produce; some plans follow inspections; and we also produce other plans that you may be interested in. All of our plans are designed to help us provide better services.

The Children and Young Peoples Plan is the overarching, integrated plan that sets out Barnsley's vision, ambitions, strategy and priorities specifically aimed at improving outcomes for children, young people and families across the borough.

Schools are expected to have a School Development Plan or Improvement Plan. These plans set out how the school is planning its future. They also publish individual school prospectuses. To find out about individual school plans or access school prospectuses, contact the individual school. Contact details for schools and links to school websites are accessible via this link.

Challenge and Change - Benefits for Families with Children at School

This user friendly guide gives parents information about the different types of support available to families and tells them how they can access it. It offers advice on free school meals, school trips, travel, social security benefits, tax credits, education maintenance allowance, as well as how to get help if a person is thinking of returning to work. The main aim of the guide is to make sure parents dont miss out on help that is rightly theirs. Please note, this is a large file and may take a while to download.

Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA)Report 2012

The CSA is an analysis of the demand and supply of childcare across the borough to meet the needs of local parents.Under the 2006 Childcare Act, every local authority has a legal duty to produce a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA) every three years, commencing April 2008 (with an annual update).

Early Childhood Strategic Framework The Early Childhood Strategic Framework draws together existing policies of statutory and
voluntary community organisations within the Barnsley that provide support for children pre-birth to
11 and the parents, carers and families of these children.
Integrated Youth Support Strategic Framework The Barnsley Integrated Youth Support Strategic Framework sets out how the partners and
stakeholders across Children and Young Peoples Services, including young people themselves
and their parents, carers and families, will work together to improve the quality of support, care and
learning for young people.
One Path, One Door Strategy

If you have a child with a disability, special educational needs, learning difficulties, or complex health needs, this strategy sets out what Barnsley is doing to ensure they are offered better life chances.

You can see the progress we're making in our strategy reviews: One Path, One Door Review - March 2010 and One Path, One Door - November 2011

Multi Agency Transitions Protocol and Pathway

The protocol and pathway outlines agreed good practice and responsibilities to ensure the involvement of all relevant agencies in developing person-centered policies, procedures and protocols covering children's transition or progression to adulthood.

Transition is the purposeful, planned process that addresses the medical, psychosocial and educational/ vocational needs of young people as they move from a child-centred to an adult-orientated system.

Parenting Strategy This strategy helps us design and deliver better co-ordinated support services for parents and carers, and easier access to information for families.
Primary Strategy for Change This strategy sets out how primary capital projects are managed to ensure that all primary schools have the equivalent range of educational and other support facilities that are comparable with the new Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schools, and that meet the needs of local children and their communities.

Safe Parenting Handbook

Polish Translation of the Safe Parenting Handbook.

This is a really useful guide for parents, providing information about a wide range of issues you might experience in this challenging role, and offering some really helpful advice and tips for being a successful parent.
Special Educational Needs Handbook This is an important tool to support schools and the local authority in providing quality support to children and young people with special educational needs and their families.
