Article: Discarded needles and syringes Article Body Discarded needle (syringe) collection is mainly free of charge. We can offer help by supplying a needle sharps box to owners/occupiers to put the needles in and we will then arrange for the disposal of the discarded needles. This service is available to all council departments, householders and businesses. At present we are unable to offer a needle search and collection service within properties. Response times/next steps Discarded needles that have been found in public areas and are reported during office hours are collected by Neighbourhood Services wherever possible the same day during daylight hours, Monday to Friday. Out of hours to request needle recovery out of hours please email referrals to safer@barnsley.gov.uk Please do not handle discarded needles. Always contact us to request removal in the first instance. Only remove needles if it is absolutely necessary, for example, causes immediate danger to vulnerable people and you have suitable protective equipment. Wear disposable gloves or use tweezers to pick up needles. Procedure If you find any discarded needles/syringes and wish to report them you can.
