Article Body

Barnsley Youth Service offers a great range of volunteering/involvement projects for young people.

Do you want to volunteer to work within the Youth Service, help out in your local youth club or community, or take part in exciting projects and gain nationally recognised awards like the Duke of Edinburgh's Award?

If you want to influence what happens in your community then find out about Barnsley's Youth Council! You could become a youth councillor or get involved in your local advisory group (YAAG) or other projects run by the Participation and Inclusion Service (Voice and Influence work).

  • Barnsley Youth Council and other youth participation work is open to Barnsley young people 13 - 19 years.
  • The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is for young people 14 - 24 years.
  • The Youth-led and Placement Volunteer projects work with young people 14 - 19 years.

How to access the projects

Many projects run 'as and when' so please contact the Volunteer Co-ordinator (289237) if you want to find out more about the work that they do.

All the projects will register young people into their schemes, once those young people know what they want to do, and trained youth workers will guide you through. For further details please contact the appropriate section directly.

The projects run mainly evening sessions - contact or leave a message for the staff below and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

How much it costs

There is no charge for most of our projects and all are heavily subsidised. If you wish to sign up for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award there is a cost to register, which is currently £12.00 for Bronze and Silver and £18.00 for Gold.
