Article: Psychological, psychiatric or social work services in schools Article Body The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) provides consultation, assessment, intervention, research and training to schools, educational settings, early years providers, and other organisations on behalf of children, young people and their families. Schools are informed of their Educational Psychology Service contact at the start of each academic year, who then contacts the headteacher for a consultation meeting, where any concerns the school has may be discussed, for example: vulnerable children/young people staff development policy, systems and project work. The outcome of the consultation varies from school to school, but always includes a clear plan of agreed action between the school and the Educational Psychologist. The EPS has an established protocol for working with children/young people which ensures that parents are fully informed and any issues of confidentiality are addressed. The EPS also responds to parents who contact the service directly, usually because of concerns relating to their child in school.
