During the past year, Barnsley Council's Strategic Housing installed eight solar thermal systems and 12 cavity wall insulations at Little Houghton in a pilot project for renewables and off the gas grid communities.
The council is now is bidding for more funds to deliver wider scale works in the Dearne Valley aimed at reducing resident's fuel bills and reducing the borough's carbon footprint.
This successful trial with the York-based company Solarwall is a good example of private sector partnerships being forged to deliver valuable benefit to the community.
Solar thermal systems offer big reductions in the cost of domestic hot water. Resident benefits such as bill and energy savings are being monitored.
