THIS IS AN ARCHIVED PRESS RELEASE AND IS DISPLAYED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY

BARNSLEY BOOKSTART is joining in with the National Bookstart Day celebrations by hosting their 10th annual Baby Day event at Central Library, Shambles Street, on Friday, 11 June, from 10am to 2.30pm.

Parents with babies and young children are invited to come along and enjoy stories, rhymes and fun activities on this year’s theme of “At the Seaside.”

There will be information stands and stalls from local service providers and free taster sessions such as Jo Jingles, baby massage and baby signing. Every child will receive a free book and babies and children who join the library on the day will be entered into a prize draw to win their own mini Bookstart Bear.

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Member for Customer and Neighbourhood Services, will officially open the day at 10am. He said: “Baby Day is a great opportunity for local families to join in with the National Bookstart Day celebrations and to find out what the library has to offer.  As well as discovering the benefits of an early introduction to books, families will be able to find out about, and even try other fun activities that are available locally.”

Bookstart aims to help every child in the UK to develop a lifelong love of books and this year, the programme will offer millions of children and parents the chance to discover the joy of reading together.
