Major Events

Fire and Light at Cannon Hall Museum

The Arts and Museums section play a crucial role within the Culture & Visitor Economy service.  It provides direct service provision as well as enabling others in providing opportunities for residents and visitors to the borough to use their leisure time enjoyably.  The Arts team are responsible for Community Arts Development and local Festivals and Events.  The team implement the local cultural strategy; assist local artists, arts organisations and community partnerships to develop arts activity that meets local needs and aspirations.

Two Barnsley arts organisations have achieved funding this year from the Arts Council England and are now NPO's (National Portfolio Organisations). 

·         Barnsley Civic Enterprise Ltd

·         British Federations of Brass Bands

They were recognised for their ambition, artistic exploration and pioneering spirit.

Access is from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 with J37 just 1 mile from the Town Hall (S70 2TA).

We have frequent rail services to mainline stations at Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. There are also five airports within one hour of the town centre, namely Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham East Midlands and Humberside.
