The Government has now accredited Barnsley Forum Executive as the Local Strategic Partnership for Barnsley 2002/03. This formalises its responsibility for the Community Plan and Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy. The Partnership is required to re-apply for accreditation each year. The Submission for Re-Accreditation 2003-04 contains the Partnership's latest Self-Assessment and Action Plan. Announcements about accreditation will be made in February 2003.
The role of the Forum Executive is primarily strategic. As the main strategic decision-making body for the Community Plan and Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy, it is responsible for:
The Forum Executives membership is drawn from the key agencies and organisations responsible for the regeneration of the Borough. They include Barnsley Council, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Primary Care Trust, Barnsley College, the Community and Voluntary sectors and South Yorkshire Police. Government Departments attend as observers.

The community planning process has a distinctive structure in Barnsley. Working within the strategic umbrella of the Forum Executive are four Strategic Goal Groups who, for their particular area of responsibility, agree priorities and key actions for the Community Plan and Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy. Delivery is then undertaken by partner organisations such as Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire Police. The Strategic Goal Groups are:
