Barnsley Council, as markets authority, is the owner of market rights. The rights also entitle the Authority to protection from anyone else seeking to establish a rival market.
The Authority will allow two charitable events per charity or voluntary group per year.
Potential market operators and/ or land owners. Charitable and voluntary groups should not allow the use of their land for markets held by commercial operators.
Notify the Council of the intention to hold a market at least one month in advance.
Planning permission should also be sought.

A. Yes, charitable or voluntary groups are allowed to hold two events, with at least one months advance notice and formal authorisation from the Markets Service.
