The purpose of the Local Land Charges Section is to protect the financial and legal interest of prospective purchasers of land and property. This is achieved by providing information on land and property and giving access to the Local Land Charges Register for the purpose of personal searches.
A local land charge is a restriction or prohibition on land, either to secure the payment of a sum of money or to limit the use to which the land may be put.
The Register of Common Land and Town or Village Green is a statutory register that is available for public inspection within the Local Land Charges Section. A search of this register can be carried out by submitting Form CR21 along with the statutory fee.

All searches are dealt with by a team with many years experience and a vast knowledge of local land charges and the associated search processes. This team is committed to providing customers with a first class service.
As part of this service we will:-
| 1. | Provide an accurate and comprehensive reply to 90% of local searches within 5 working days and the remainder within 10 working days. |
| 2. | Provide an accurate and comprehensive reply to all Common Land searches within 5 working days. |
| 3. | Answer all telephone calls in a courteous and professional manner within 15 seconds. |
| 4. | Resolve the majority of telephone queries immediately. |
| 5. | Acknowledge all correspondence within 24 hours. |
| 6. | Attend to all visitors immediately. |
| 7. | Monitor our performance continuously to provide customers with the service they demand and deserve. |
During 2004/05, 99.91% of standard searches were completed within the Audit Commission Performance Indicator of 10 working days, and 98.35% within our own Local Timescale Indicator of 5 working days and 64.39% have been completed within 3 working days.
