Summary

Vandalism is a perennial problem. There is no single definition and no model solution. Its direct costs amount to many millions of pounds a year, and its wider effects range from inconvenience and discomfort, to fear, and actual danger to the public. The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 requires the Police and Local Authorities to work together and with other agencies to reduce and prevent crime and disorder in their areas. In response to this Act, the Barnsley Community Safety Partnership has been set up to implement and monitor a Community Safety Plan. The plan outlines what actions will be taken by the partners working together, to reduce crime and disorder in Barnsley. Our aim is to make Barnsley a better place to live and work.
