Barnsley Registration Service is responsible for :
The registration of births, stillbirths, deaths, marriage and civil partnership ceremonies which take place within the district boundaries.
The legal preliminaries to marriage and civil partnership ceremonies for couples living within the district boundaries (except where the couple are to marry in the Church of England).
Issuing certified copies of entries held in birth, death, marriage and civil partnership registers since 1837.
Conducting citizenship ceremonies, non statutory naming ceremonies, renewal of vows and commitment ceremonies.
The Register Office is open as follows:
Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
Thursday 9.00 am to 6.00 pm (4.00 pm to 6.00 pm by appointment only)
There is also a Registrar available for the Registration of Births and Deaths by appointment only at the following locations:

Barnsley Register Office offers an appointment service for the registration of births, stillbirths and deaths and to make arrangements for your ceremony.
Telephone (01226) 773085 / 773090 to make an appointment.
If you are coming to the Barnsley Register Office at the Town Hall to register a birth, stillbirth, death or to arrange a ceremony on a weekday we advise you to use the nearby pay & display car parks as there is no parking facilities at the Town Hall.
Appointments can take up to an hour. Please make appropriate car parking arrangements.
If you are attending a ceremony at the Register Office on a weekday, car parking is restricted to one car for each ceremony party - this car parking is at the front of the Town Hall, and is intended for the use of the bride and/or bridegroom.
Guests should use the various pay & display car parks around the Town Hall, allowing enough time for the ceremony and photographs afterwards.
On Saturdays, There is facility for two vehicles per Ceremony, to park at the front of the Town Hall.

The Barnsley Indexing Project enables anyone who wishes to obtain a Birth, Marriage or Death certificate to locate the register details for the event and then print them out. It is a joint venture between Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and volunteers from the Barnsley Family History Society.
