At some time in their lives almost everyone will need to use the Registration Service. It deals with the registering of births, deaths, marriages civil partnerships and can also help if you want to find out more about your ancestors or trace your family tree. Information relating to all of these areas is available on this website and we hope that you will find it useful.
In addition to using the website, personal visits to the Register Office, situated in Barnsley Town Hall, are encouraged and an appointments system is in operation to reduce waiting times. Staff at the Register Office are happy to answer any queries that you might have.
The Barnsley Celebration Guide is now available online. The Guide is full of useful information to help you plan your special celebration.
The Barnsley Indexing Project enables anyone who wishes to obtain a Birth, Marriage or Death certificate to locate the register details for the event and then print them out. It is a joint venture between Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and volunteers from the Barnsley Family History Society.
The General Register Office supplies official information on births, marriages and deaths.
Details of the opening hours and how to find the Register Office can also be found on these web pages, together with contact details for neighbouring authorities.
