Councillors Surgeries

Roles

To identify specific ward-based issues, which may be raised by local people, and refer them to senior management, Cabinet or full Council for appropriate action.

Membership/Structure

Members'' surgeries continue to be an important means of exercising the ward representative function. They offer an opportunity for the public to pursue issues with their local Councillors in private, rather than the more public setting of the Area Forum.

Issues raised in Members'' surgeries can be followed up at Area Forum level. These are supported by a senior, cross-service area officer who acts as an advocate for the area and provides an interface with all parts of the Authority. The same Area Officer is available to support Members'' Surgeries and to pursue issues on behalf of Members within the Authority. This would not prevent Members pursuing matters directly if preferred.

Issues raised in surgeries are included in the authority''s information strategy, to contribute to organisational learning and improvement.
