Biographical Information
Councillor Peter Middleton represents the Old Town Ward. He was elected in May 2006 and his term of office expires in 2010. He is a member of the Barnsley Independent Group.
Councillor Middleton has served on the Council since 2002.
Councillor Middleton is a freelance ecologist specialising in ornithology and botany, his work includes contracts for Natural England, Moors for the Future and large consultancies. He is also a nature conservationist who has been involved with the regeneration at Grimethorpe influencing habitat and landscape creation. He is currently a recorder for Barnsley Bird Study Group in addition to being the joint co-ordinator of the Barnsley Breeding Bird Atlas. He is also collecting data for the South Yorkshire Plant Atlas project. He has had papers and articles published in British Wildlife, British Birds and The Naturalist.
The Ward Map displays the boundaries of all the electoral districts in the Barnsley borough.
The majority of Members hold regular informal ward meetings known as surgeries, details of which are updated on a weekly basis.

Councillor Middleton sits on the Environment Scrutiny Commission and General Licensing Regulatory Board.
Councillor Middleton sits on the following Outside Bodies: Barnsley Diversity Trust, Stainborough Park Management Liaison Committee and Trans-Pennine Trail Members Steering Group.
