Regional Assembly For Yorkshire and the Humber

The Regional Assembly for Yorkshire and the Humber has been given statutory responsiblity to scrutinise and hold to account the work Regional Development Agency (i.e Yorkshire Forward) and in particular, the development of regional economic,spatial and other plans, affecting the people of Yorkshire and the Humber.The Assembly also works to promote the interests of the Region in the European Parliament, mainly to ensure Yorkshire and the Humber receives its fair share of EU funding. The Leader of Barnsley MBC is a Member of the Assembly. In September 2006, subject to stake holder approval, the Assembly will be renamed Local Government Yorkshire and the Humber and as well as aiming to achieve its current objectives, will incorporate the duties of the Regional Employers Organisation For Local Government.

The agendas, reports and minutes of the Assembly's meetings can be accessed on the Council's website and are available to all residents and members of the public.
