The role of the Appeals, Admissions and Awards Board is to deal with appeals, admissions and awards within policies set by the Council and also to include the relevant responsibilities relating to Education, Housing and Social Services.
The membership/structure operates on a panel system - panels formed from a Board which will comprise of 22 Members - one per ward (adjusted if appropriate).
The precise arrangements made to deal with appeals and other matters, and the composition of the Panel, vary according to the type of appeal or other issues being dealt with.
The Board includes Opposition Members, Chairman and Vice Chairman. Cabinet Members are excluded (Cabinet Support Members are eligible for membership).
Meetings are held as and when required and are held in public, with provision for private sessions (with explanation), where necessary. Given the personal nature of the meetings they will normally tend to be held in private.
