The role of the Statutory Licensing Board is to exercise the function of the Council in relation to the Licensing Act 2003.

These include areas such as:

  • Monitoring the operation of the Councils Licensing Policy Statement.
  • Monitoring the operation/performance of the 5 Sub-Committees (comprising three Members each) established to determine applications for and reviews of licence.
  • Determining the procedure/protocol to be adopted by the 5 Sub-Committees

Sub-Committees determine applications for and reviews of Licences made under the provisions of the Licensing Act 2003.

The Board consists of 15 Members, including Opposition Members, Chairman and Vice Chairman.  Cabinet Members are excluded (Cabinet Support Members are eligible for membership).

Meetings are held every 2 months (Sub-Committees as and when required).  They are held in public, with provision for private sessions (with explanation), where necessary.  They are programmed on a regular cycle.
