Young skaters and novices alike are invited to Hard Grindz, an indoor skateboarding event at the Metrodome Leisure Complex, Queens Road, Barnsley, on Saturday, 22 October from 11am to 4pm.
Organised by Barnsley Council's Youth Service and Parks Service, the event will feature skate ramps, dj-ing, graffiti boards and much more. The day is aimed at all young people in Barnsley aged 11 to 19. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to the more advanced, skaters and non-skaters. Support will be given to less confident skaters and boards will be on loan on the day.
A range of consultation will take place at the event, including getting young people's views on skateboarding in Barnsley and their aspirations for the future of the sport. Prizes will be awarded during the day for participants' effort and achievement and all young people who attend will be entered into a prize draw.
Hard Grindz is sponsored by Barnsley Youth Service, Connexions, Barnsley Youth Council, Remaking Barnsley and Fit for the Future.
Youth Participation Worker, Laura Lyden, said: "Lots of young people are involved in skateboarding throughout the borough and this can be seen through the number of skate parks emerging within communities.
"This is a great opportunity for young people to come together at a co-ordinated event to share their ideas and skills and have fun."
Young people must hand in a completed consent form on the day to use the skate ramps. These are available by contacting Laura Lyden on 07908 040835.
