RESIDENTS in Barnsley are encouraged to have a green Christmas by using their recycling bins and bags, or by visiting the borough’s four household recycling sites.
Use your green bin (garden waste and cardboard) for
cards with glitter, foil or bows etc,
real Christmas trees (cut up into pieces),
torn-up excess cardboard packaging (minus any plastic windows),
wrapping paper with sticky tape attached.
Use your blue bin/bag for
plain Christmas cards,
plain wrapping paper.
Use your brown bin for
all the additional food and drinks cans from Christmas festivities,
wines and spirits bottles.
Barnsley residents should by now have received collection day stickers for Christmas and 2010.
Household Waste Recycling Centres in the borough are open from 9.30am to 4.30pm every day except Christmas day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. These are located at: Highgate Lane, Goldthorpe; West Street, Worsbrough; Smithies Lane, Barnsley and Springvale, Penistone. All other surplus household waste, large items and electrical appliances can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres.
