LIBRARIES across Barnsley are getting in the festive spirit.
Christmas has always been a time for picking up a book, watching a film or listening to music, whether a Christmas present or seasonal favourite, and enjoying the smiles they bring.
Visit any library during the weeks leading up to Christmas and you’ll be able to select your reading material for the holidays with a musical background. Children will be able to join in themed craft activities and there will be displays of books of festive recipes, popular fiction and seasonal films.
The central library’s Full Stop Café has also added mince pies to their menu throughout December.
Members of Penistone Theatre Group will be visiting Penistone Library and E-Learning Centre on Saturday, 12 and 19 December to talk about their forthcoming production of “Puss in Boots”.
They will also be at Barnsley Central Library on Wednesday, 16 December from 5.30pm to 6.30pm - in costume and accompanied by Sopwith the Camel!
Saturday, 19 December will see a brass quartet from Barnsley Metropolitan Band playing carols in the Central Library, where there will also be a display of Christmas poetry and prose written by members of the writers groups based in the borough.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Customer and Neighbourhood Services, said: “It is good to see libraries across the borough making their own contribution to the Christmas spirit and proving once again that they are a vital part of the local community throughout the year.”
