AN extra £533K will be allocated to the 2009/2010 Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) Programme, following a decision made by Barnsley Council.
Cabinet Spokesperson for Development, Cllr Bill Newman said:
“The DFG scheme is very popular and supports people to live independently in their own homes.
This year, despite already committing resources of over £1.5M, we have put in more money to ensure we support residents and also help to keep work flowing to local contractors.
The demand for DFGs has been slightly up in 2009, but works are being finalised quicker, reflecting the fact some contracts have limited work elsewhere.”
The DFGs programme helps people with adaptations in their own homes, providing help with items such as stairflifts, showers and heating conversions.
