Park with ease for free in Barnsley and beat the final Christmas rush

SHOPPERS are reminded that Barnsley’s free park and ride service from the Peel Centre off Harborough Hill Road will be available all the way up to Christmas on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Cllr Bill Newman, Cabinet spokesman for Development, said: “Up to 23 December shoppers can park quickly at the Peel Centre and zoom into the Interchange on the special shuttle buses which operate on a seven-minute frequency. Parking and shuttle bus are all free - what could be more simple and relaxing?”

He added: “This is our busiest time of year and we are doing everything we can to help people access the facilities of the town centre as simply and quickly as possible. It can also be an expensive time of year, so, again this year, we have been able to make the park and ride a free service thanks to the kind support of our partners South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.”

The council’s town centre car parks are also free at weekends, Cllr Newman added, but shoppers who want to get into town with the minimum of fuss are advised to use the park and ride service, which is well signposted from all the major routes into town.
