HIGHLIGHTING its commitment to a clean, green and safe environment, and to mark National Tree Planting Week, Barnsley Council undertook a tree-planting scheme at Mapplewell Park earlier this week.
Children from Mapplewell Primary joined Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet spokesperson for Customer and Neighbourhood Services, and Parks Services officers to plant four trees at various locations in the park.
Cllr Miller said the three limes and one apple tree will enhance the park. “It’s good to get the children involved at a young age and in something they can see in their local green space,” he said. “This will, I hope, foster a lifelong appreciation the natural environment.”
