BARNSLEY’S winter season is packed with events and activities specifically programmed around this year’s theme of reflections.
The reflections theme continues this weekend (5/6 December) through an exhibition of contemporary glass and the unveiling of a public art installation at Cannon Hall. Lighting artists Aether and Hemera have been commissioned to design and install a piece of art, which will use light and reflection to connect with the natural outdoor landscape of the hall and its country park.
The unveiling will take place at Cannon Hall this Saturday (5 December) and will be complimented by other activities throughout the day, including entertainment from the Fluid Druid and the Gandini Jugglers, who will perform their acclaimed show, Glow.
As part of the Christmas fair activities, Father Christmas will be there in his beautifully decorated grotto and visitors will have the opportunity to buy gifts from the quality craft fair which will be located in the Spencer Wing. The fun starts at 11am and the activities will run throughout the day until 4pm.
Throughout this month the Town Hall hosts a historical glass exhibition, the striking displays of decorative and historic glass are on show in the main civic reception of the Town Hall.
A Christmas Fair weekend on 12 and 13 December at Elsecar Heritage Centre will also celebrate the theme of reflections with outdoor entertainers, glass blowing, crazy mirrors and antique glass and bottles. The Reflections in Glass exhibition at the Cooper Gallery until 24 December is a stunning, high quality collection of contemporary glass.
