General
Last week, the government put in place Salt Cell and is taking the lead of salt supplies and deliveries to councils. The government has asked councils to reduce their spreading of road salt by 40 to 50 percent to conserve stocks. The council has sufficient supplies of salt in stock for the next few days based on the current weather forecast. Further deliveries will be received according to the priorities set by Salt Cell.
Today’s weather
There will be a slow rise in temperatures over the coming days, but there is still a risk of freezing on higher ground, with some sleet/snow showers forecast.
Today’s gritting and snow clearing operations
Main roads to the west of the borough were treated yesterday evening, and all main roads across the borough early this morning. The council will continue to deal with snow/ice complaints across the borough today.
Potholes
As the thaw continues, the damage that the frost and ice has caused to road and footway surfaces is becoming more evident, with potholes appearing and ground heave being caused to flagged footways. If you wish to report any defects, please use the following contacts:
Grit bins
The council will not be refilling grit bins for the time being to ensure that we have enough road salt to keep the main roads clear.
Driving conditions
Driving conditions remain hazardous, particularly on untreated roads off the main roads. You are advised to continue to take extreme care.
