BARNSLEY has demonstrated its creative credential to host UK City of Culture in 2013 by transforming historic Cannon Hall with a dramatic, inspiring projection of the ‘Red Dog’ emblem that encapsulates the town's creative vision for the future.
Patrick Murphy, creator of the ‘Whippet’, said: "This is a great project for a Barnsley artist, working collectively to forge a unique cultural vision." As the lead artist and the driving force behind the Cannon Hall projection, he was delighted with the transformation which took place on Thursday evening.
The multiple projection showing different images of the dog was not only an exciting opportunity to see Cannon Hall in a completely new light, but one of the first initiatives designed to support the Barnsley bid.
Ann Gosse, Executive Director of Development, said: “Barnsley may not be the obvious choice but we are setting out our stall to demonstrate that we have the ability to be the creative leaders of the UK.”
Barnsley aims to place culture at the heart of the town’s economic regeneration by delivering a programme that enables Barnsley people to succeed. The vision for the programme ‘Coal to Culture’ is about inspiring and empowering people and communities. It’s about offering new opportunities, drive, passion and fresh aspirations.
