A DAY of fun for all the family will launch Barnsley’s Sustainable Community Strategy at the Interchange on Saturday, 26 July, from 10am to 2pm.
The strategy contains information about the vision for Barnsley until 2020. It details a range of ambitious pledges which say how One Barnsley partners will work together to make improvements to the economy, health, environment, housing, transport, and education amongst others. Leaflets giving a summary of the document will be available for residents to see how Barnsley will be improved.
Entertainers will provide magic, juggling, stilt-walking, face painting and balloon models and people will be able to get information on the positive changes taking place in Barnsley from a number of stalls.
Information and advice will be given on Barnsley Black and Ethnic Minority Initiative (BBEMI), affordable warmth, energy efficiency, benefits, health and sustainable travel including walking and cycling routes in Barnsley. Representatives from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Yorkshire Police will also be in attendance as will Barnsley Credit Union. Experience Barnsley, the project to turn Barnsley Town Hall into an interactive museum and heritage facility will also be asking people their thoughts on Barnsley.
Fit for the Future has arranged a Remaking Barnsley walk. This will start at 12 noon at the interchange and take approximately 30 minutes, ending back at the Interchange. The Fit for the Future team will also be taking health pledges as part of the Know Your Score campaign.
There will also be a guide to give an insight into some of the major changes taking place around Barnsley town centre as part of Remaking Barnsley.
Amongst free goodies handed out at the launch will be limited edition eco shopper bags and energy efficient light bulbs.
