BARNSLEY-BORN author and mountaineer Andy Cave will be speaking about his life and his books at Barnsley Central Library on Wednesday, 20 August at 5pm.
Born in Grimethorpe, Andy became a miner like his father and grandfather before him. After the miners’ strikes of 1984 to 1985, he turned to climbing to relieve the stress and drudgery.
He has climbed most of the world’s most challenging peaks, including the north face of the Eiger, and in 2006 was voted one of the UK’S top three climbers.
Andy is Barnsley’s designated author for the National Year of Reading and as a local lad he is an appropriate choice. His books have been described as “remarkable” and “stunning” and copies of the books will be available to buy and have signed.
For more information, or to book a place- there is no charge but places are limited - please telephone Jill Craven, Reader Development Officer on 01226 762313 or e mail JillCraven@barnsley.gov.uk
