A NEW Homes Services Directory will allow people to know that the traders they use are committed to working honestly and fairly
Trading Standards Services in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield have been working together on the directory to provide peace of mind for residents across South Yorkshire.
The initiative enables Trading Standards services to recommend traders on the Directory to consumers, safe in the knowledge that they have committed to trade openly and abide by the scheme’s rules and obligations.
Cllr Roy Miller, Vice Chair of the South Yorkshire Joint Trading Standards Committee, recently presented traders from Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield with certificates recognising their commitment to trading fairly.
Those presented with certificates included A Hawkins Electrical, Aytex Yorkshire Ltd and Clearflow.
Barnsley Council’s Regulatory Services hopes that the scheme will grow rapidly and would therefore like to hear from consumers who have had work done to their home or garden. People who have used a local tradesman and were pleased with the job can nominate the trader for the Home Services Directory. Similarly, any trader who wishes to join the scheme is free to apply.
Traders who pass the criteria will be entitled to use the home services directory logo and website. Any trader interested in joining the Directory can get more information by calling Consumer Direct on 08456 04 05 06 or the website www.hsd.org.uk
Cllr Miller said: “There are too many stories of consumers being ripped off. This Directory will help consumers to identify local trades people they can trust. It is really good to see so many traders who are committed to the scheme.”
