PARKS groups in Barnsley are hoping the good weather lasts to make the most of events planned for “Love Parks” week – Saturday, 14 to Sunday, 22 June.
Activities have been planned for families across the borough in celebration of the town’s parks and green spaces.
On Saturday, 14 and Sunday 15 June Dale Juniors football club will be holding its fifth annual football tournament at Farm Road, Kendray. The tournaments start at 10am and finish at around 2pm.
The Friends of Elsecar Park are holding a litter pick and concert on Sunday 15 from 2pm to 4pm. The day will start with volunteers helping to clear litter and fly tipping, then areas of scrub will be removed to make way for the proposed bird hide. Hawthorn is also going to be replanted to create a hedgerow around the reservoir parking area.
Later on, the concert will take place from the bandstand and there will be various activities for children including a nature trail quiz. Cllr Roy Miller has presented the group with a mountain bike kindly donated by the Bluebell Inn, Dodworth which will be first prize in a raffle held on the day.
On Thursday, 19 there is an open sports day at Gilroyd recreation ground, organised by Fenton Community Partnership. Fore more details please call Janet Wadsworth on 01226 391198.
Wombwell Park gala takes place on Saturday, 21. Organised by Wombwell, Jump, Hemingfield and Broomhill Community partnership, there will be singing, dancing, craft stalls and live music from Wombwell High pupils. The gala runs from 11am to 3pm.
