THE people of Barnsley joined Royal British Legion members and civic leaders to pay tribute to service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice at a Remembrance Sunday service at the town’s war memorial.
Some 250 schoolchildren joined the Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley, Cllr John and Mrs Linda Parkinson, for the act of remembrance. Lord and Lady Mason of Barnsley, Freemen of the Borough Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird and Rita Britton joined the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, Helena Muller and her husband, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Hunt and Mrs Hunt in the civic party. Local MPs and representatives of the emergency services also joined the service.
