THE Christmas lights switch-on on Wednesday, 18 November (from 4pm) also signals the start of late-night shopping in Barnsley, with town centre shops staying open until 8pm. There will be a lively and fun-packed programme of music and events to keep shoppers entertained.
The late-night shopping calendar runs every Wednesday from 18 November until 23 December, plus Monday and Tuesday, 21 and 22 December. Among the highlights of the entertainment programme is a charity gala night at The Civic on 25 November. It’s Snow Biz will showcase entertainment from Barnsley’s performance venues. Meanwhile, The Mall shopping precinct will host martial arts performance duo Strike, formed by Liam Richards, 20 and Danny Ball, 22. Strike combine different styles of martial arts, acrobatics, gymnastics and dance, all choreographed to music.
From 18 November there will free parking from 4pm on Wednesdays in all council car-parks and on-street parking.
A frequent park-and-ride bus service will operate between 8.30am and 5pm from the rear of the Peel Centre, Harborough Hill Road, to Barnsley Interchange on Wednesdays from 18 November to 23 December and on Fridays and Saturdays from 20 November to 19 December. Additional evening journeys will operate on 18 and 27 November for the Christmas lights switch-on and Christkindlmarkt, respectively, with the last bus leaving the Peel Centre on these dates at 8pm.
