BARNSLEY METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 2000:
STANDARDS COMMITTEE

APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEMBERS

The Council is required under the Local Government Act 2000 to appoint up to three independent (non-elected) Members to its Standards Committee.  Applications are now sought for Independent Members to serve for a two year period from May 2007 to 2009.

All Elected Members are required to observe the provisions of the Councils Code of Conduct and the Standards Committee has an important role in overseeing the conduct of Elected Members and, where necessary, holding Hearings to consider complaints in respect of alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct.  This is a valuable opportunity to make a contribution to the work of the Council for the benefit of the community as a whole.

Application forms are available from the Borough Secretary, Town Hall, Barnsley S70 2TA.  Completed application forms should be returned by no later than Friday 6th April 2007.
