Barnsley has a number of fisheries catering for all ages, abilities and fishing techniques. From large reservoirs and commercial waters to canals and rivers, from urban sites to more remote and picturesque locations, there will be a water in Barnsley that will appeal to any angler. Legendary angler and 5X World Champion Alan Scotthorne hails from Barnsley and cut his teeth on many of the waters around the area. You could expect to catch a wide variety of fish in Barnsley; Perch, Roach and Rudd from the smaller ponds and canals, Bream, Tench and Carp from the larger waters and commercial fisheries and Chub, Pike and Barbel from the rivers.

Procedure
The customer must first obtain a rod licence from the Post Office available in 1 day, 8 day or full season, then decide where they wish to fish. By contacting the club who control the fishing, day ticket prices, specific rules and regulations (which will vary at different waters) can be obtained as can information on matches and events that may prevent pleasure angling on given days.
All Fish must be returned to the water safely and quickly to prevent distress.

Charges/Fees
The charges for the different water areas are set by the clubs and vary from water to water. They are normally charged within the range of £1.50 to £6.00 per day. Some clubs sell season tickets which may be used at other waters run by that club. The fishing rights on some rivers and other waters are privately owned and fishing is prohibited unless permission of the owner is given.
