Preferred Options - October 2005

As you know, the Government has recently changed the planning system. Part of its reform includes replacing The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) with a number of separate documents forming a Local Development Framework (LDF). The Council is currently working to produce the LDF for Barnsley which will replace the current UDP.

In October and November, 2005, the Council consulted on 6 development plan documents. We made the documents available on the web, at local and branch libraries and in Central Offices. Planning Officers also attended Area Forum meetings and were available to speak to at local drop-in surgeries across the Borough.

As a result of the consultation we received approximately 2000 individual comments. Planning Officers are currently looking through all the comments in order to produce the final draft of the plan, know as the Submission draft. We shall be consulting on the Submission draft documents in January 2007.
