V.A.T. on Building Control Fees 2008
In his Pre-Budget Report on 24 November 2008, the Chancellor announced that the standard rate of VAT will be reduced to 15% on 1 December 2008 and, as such, the fees payable for Building Regulation applications have been reduced in line with these changes.
This means that for any applications received on or after 1 December 2008 they will be subject to VAT at the new rate of 15%.
Due to administrative reasons, the plan fee payable for small domestic applications, excluding a small garage under 30m2 and works between £5,000 - £33,000, will remain at £130.00, as this will avoid any delays in processing those full plans applications already in the process of being submitted. However, the total fee payable (combined plan and inspection fees or Building Notice fee) has been reduced to ensure that overall, the full reduction in VAT has been passed onto our customers.
Inspection fees on applications already submitted, but on which work will commence after 1 December 2008, will now be subject to 15% VAT rather than the 17.5% rate that applied when deposited.
It is our understanding that the 15% rate will remain until 31st December 2009, and from 1 January 2010 it will revert to 17.5%. However, at such time, we will inform customers again of the changes.
