How much will a Planning Application Cost?
You will usually be charged a fee when you make your application. The amount that you will have to pay will depend on what you want to do. The fee should be paid when you submit your application. Your application will NOT be processed until we have received the correct fee.
You can pay by cheque or postal order, made payable to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. If you wish to pay by cash, you can do so in person at the Revenues Section, County Way, Barnsley. Please do not send cash through the post.
The Scale of Fees provides detailed notes to help you calculate your fee (click on the attached file). However, if you have a problem, we will be pleased to help; telephone Development Control (01226) 772594 or e-mail: developmentcontrol@barnsley.gov.uk. An online Fee Calculator is available via the Planning Portal, this will calculate your fee by asking you a series of questions (click on the attached external link), this feature can be used independantly of any other service offered by the Portal.
Building Control are governed by different regulations, your application for planning permission will be dealt with entirely separately from any application submitted for Building Regulations approval.
It is important to note when calculating fees for planning permission floor area is measured externally whereas Building Regulations use internal floor measurements to calculate their fees.
It is possible that planning permission could be refused and Building regulations given for a specific proposal (and vice versa). It is up to you to ensure that you have all the necessary consents before you start work.
