The Council issues a formal decision notice for every planning application which is registered, which clearly states whether planning permission is granted or refused.
This register is compiled on a weekly basis for decisions made on applications in the previous week. The register includes details of site and agent, proposal, decision and the date on which the decision was made.
These lists are available to view and download free of charge by clicking on this link:
Understanding the Decision Notice
When permission is refused, the decision notice will state clearly and precisely the full reasons for refusal.
When planning permission is granted, the decision notice includes:
• a list of the 'Planning Conditions' imposed
• a summary of the 'Reasons' for the grant and policies and proposals in the development plan, which are relevant to the decision
• 'Informatives' which are designed to provide further guidance about responsibilities under other legislation, or the need to obtain other approvals, such as highways, listed building or conservation area consent, before work can commence.
When can I start work on the development?
Generally, unless the permission says otherwise, work can begin on the development at any time within three years of the granting of planning permission. If you have not started work by then, you will need to reapply.
If the permission is granted subject to conditions, for example, requiring you to submit for approval details of a specified aspect of the development, which was not fully described in the application, these must be dealt with before the development can begin. (add link to new document which explains about planning conditions)
If outline permission has been granted, you will need to submit a further application for approval of matters that were not covered by the outline application (known as "reserved matters") before starting work.
The Weekly List provides a list of all the Planning Applications validated by the Local Authority in a given week. The list includes a reference number and details of the site, the proposal, the agent/applicant and the case officer dealing with the application.
