Environmental Policy
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) recognises that its operations have an impact on the global and local environment.
In recognition of this we are committed to the protection and enhancement of the environment.We are also committed to working towards sustainability in all our policies, strategies and plans.
Improving our corporate environmental performance throughout our operations is a high and continuing priority, to be achieved through the implementation of an environmental management system and adherence to this policy.
We will endeavour to minimise the environmental impact of our operations, prevent pollution and continually improve our environmental performance.
In order to achieve continual environmental improvement, we will establish, maintain, review and revise our environmental objectives and targets.
BMBC will ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and, where no legislation exists, will endeavour to establish corporate standards which meet the overall objective of improved environmental performance.
BMBC will educate and instruct, train and motivate staff to conduct their activities in an environmentally responsible manner giving specific regard to the induction of new staff.
We will conduct regular environmental reviews of our operations and policies to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
