Council Tax Discount - Young People Still in Receipt of Child Benefit

Young adults aged 18 years or over for which child benefit is still payable are disregarded for Council Tax purposes.

Persons in respect of whom child benefit is payable will be disregarded providing:

- they are over 18 years of age
- another person is entitled to claim child benefit for them.

How to claim a discount

To apply for a disregard for discount purposes please complete the Council Tax Discounts - Students/Student Nurses Form and return it together with evidence of the child benefit received to the Benefits & Taxation Division.

Changes in Circumstances

Applicants must inform the Council as soon as possible if there are any changes to the information provided. This may affect the Council Tax charge and applicants will have to repay any discount that they are not entitled to.
