Young adults aged 18 years or over for which child benefit is still payable are disregarded for council tax purposes.
Persons in respect of whom child benefit is payable will be disregarded providing:
they are over 18 years of age
another person is entitled to claim child benefit for them.
How to claim a discount
To apply for a disregard for discount purposes please complete the Council Tax Discounts - Students/Student Nurses Form and return it together with evidence of the child benefit received to the Benefits & Taxation Division.

How you can help
You can help by fully completing the Council Tax Discounts form, remembering to sign the declaration and provide evidence of the child benefit received.
Forms are scanned onto computer to create electronic images. To enable the form to be easily read please complete it using dark blue or black ink.
Applicants must inform the Council as soon as possible if there are any changes to the information provided. This may affect the Council Tax charge and applicants will have to repay any discount that they are not entitled to.
