The Archives and Local Studies collection of images includes over 10,000 items, including engravings, drawings, photographs and paintings.
There are views of local villages and towns, street scenes, pictures of local industry and school photographs (both children and buildings).
We also hold collections of photographs taken by well-known photographers as well as smaller collections of family photographs.
Most, but not all, of our photographic collections have been digitised as part of a project to celebrate the coal mining industry and its communities. This photographic archive can be searched at www.yococo.co.uk. Copies of individual images can then be ordered from the department.
