If you would like to complete an Online Membership form to join the Library, please click on this link: Library Membership
There is no longer any need to fill out an application form if you would like to join whilst at the library.
Just bring along some identification of your name and address and simply ask to join. We will ask you for a few details for our records, and also to sign the borrowers ledger agreeing to abide by the library rules. We will then make out a library ticket for you there and then. You can still have access to the public computers and take out 2 books without any ID, but once ID has been shown then up to 20 items can be borrowed, including DVDs and CDs.
For younger members up to the age of 18, the procedure is exactly the same as above except that a guarantor is required to sign the borrowers ledger. The guarantor for children up to the age of 13 is usually a parent or legal guardian. For young people from the age of 14-17 the guarantor may be another adult who is prepared to accept responsibility for losses and fines.
Again, if you don't have any identificatiion with you, up to 2 books may be taken out when you join. On production of ID of name and address then up to 10 items from Junior may be taken out. For Youth Members producing ID increases the number of items to 20 including CDs and DVDs.
Should it not be convenient for a parent or guarantor to come into the library to sign the borrower ledger, then a form may be taken home for the required signature.
If you live, work or study in Barnsley then one piece of ID showing your name and address is required (eg utility bill, drivers licence or bank statement).
If you live outside the area and do not work or study in Barnsley then 2 pieces of ID showing name and address are required.
If you have just arrived in Britain then the Home Office card issued on arrival is required.
To access details of your library account online, you will require a PIN number. To obtain a PIN number please visit the library in person taking with you your library card or alternative ID.
If you lose your library card you must report it as soon as possible to any branch. The first replacement is free of charge, any subsequent replacements are charged at £1.50 for an immediate replacement. Alternatively it can be replaced free of charge after waiting one calendar month. You will need to call into the library to collect your replacement ticket.
Please inform us of any change to your name and address. If you bring in some ID showing the new details then a new library card giving full library membership can be issued immediately.
