Mobile Library

Barnsley Library Service currently has 2 Mobile Library vehicles in operation serving areas of the Borough which are more than 1 mile from a static library and also serving a large number of schools and nurseries.

The vehicles are purpose built and have access for wheelchairs.  They operate to a specific timetable, visiting halts either weekly or fortnightly.

Each vehicle holds approximately 3,000 items including:

  • Books - fiction and non-fiction
  • Children's books
  • Large print and spoken word items
  • A small selection of DVDs

They also have ICT equipment with access to Microsoft Office packages and a printer.

Additionally a Home Delivery and Community Collections Service provides books to housebound readers, day centres, residential homes and sheltered accommodation.  Items are chosen by specialist staff based on individual requirements and delivered direct to the door.

For more information on Mobile Library routes or the Home Delivery Service please contact Penistone Library on 01226 762313.

We readily listen to proposals for route amendments.  If you feel that your area could be better served please contact the Library Operations Officer on 01226 773927.
