Public internet access PCs are available in all Barnsley Libraries, and they are connected to the National Grid for Learning via a high speed broadband network.  Members of the public are also able to access web mail, Microsoft office packages, a scanner and printing facilities.

Sessions are available for a maximum of two hours per person per day and the last session ends 15 minutes before the library closes.

Access for people with disabilities

 

  • Improved wheelchair access to all libraries/learning centres.
  • PCs with screen magnification software and voice facilities at all libraries via Windows 2000.
  • Equipment to aid people with disabilities at all libraries specialised keyboards, keyboard gloves, trackerballs and wrist supports.
  • An Internet terminal at the Central library with large touch screen facility for use by people with disabilities. This PC is on a height adjustable table for wheelchair access.

 

Who can use library PCs?

 

The PCs can be used by:

  • anyone over 18 with a valid library card
  • visitors to Barnsley (on an occasional basis)
  • library members aged 8-18 years who have had an Internet permission form countersigned by a parent or guardian
  • library members under 8 years who have had an Internet permission form countersigned by a parent or guardian and who are accompanied by an adult

 

How to book a PC session

 

Sessions are available on a pre-booked or drop-in basis

As demand is usually high it is advisable to book sessions in advance, especially at smaller branches. This can be done in person, by email or telephone to the library of your choice.

Use of the PC is free, but there is a small charge for printouts. Payment can be made in cash or by cheques made payable to BMBC

Opening times for the Central Library are as follows:

Monday 9.30 - 7.00
Tuesday 9.30 - 5.30
Wednesday 9.30 - 7.00
Thursday 9.30-5.30
Friday 9.30 - 5.30
Saturday 9.30 - 4.00
