The Library Study Support Network provides a range of free activities for children and young people across the Borough. Study Support, often referred to as 'Out of Hours Learning' incorporates a wide range of educational and fun activities outside normal lesson times in which young people participate voluntarily.  Sessions are open to everyone up to the age of 18 years, although children aged under 8 years must be accompanied by a parent/carer or guardian.

The purpose of the project is to:

  • Raise educational attainment
  • Enrich the lives of young people
  • Increase motivation to learn
  • Develop study skills
  • Extend learning opportunities beyond the school day
  • Promote lifelong learning
  • Improve employment prospects
  • Create opportunities for success
  • Instill a sense of pride in young people
  • Provide a safe, non-threatening environment for children, young people and their families

Young people attending the study centres will have access to:

  • Dedicated study support workers and volunteers who will help, support and advise with homework, projects, key skills (including literacy, numeracy and ICT) and other learning or study needs a young person may have.
  • IT equipment and courses
  • Internet, Email and Web design facilities and courses
  • Photocopying facilities
  • Library areas for study
  • Accreditation through the First Steps and ASDAN programmes.
  • Recognised ASDAN, CoPE and Wider Key Skills Qualifications and short courses.
  • Peer Mentoring and Peer Support opportunities
  • Space and support for course work and exam revision
  • Readers Group activities
  • Games Tournaments
  • Arts and Craft materials
  • National Curriculum projects

Family Learning Opportunities are also available allowing both children and family members to learn together and experience new opportunities.

Study Support sessions are available throughout the year, although times may change during school holidays.  For further details about Study Support, details of opening times during holidays and to find out about forthcoming events, please contact the Study Support Network Manager on (01226) 773507
