The PANDA (Performance and Assessment) Report is an annual report, made available to schools in the autumn term. It is designed with the intention of assisting schools to see how effective they are in comparison with 'all' schools nationally and other 'similar' schools (similar schools being based on free school meals eligibility and prior attainment). The PANDA details trends showing how the school compares with the national average and 'similar' schools and compares the attainment of boys and girls at the school against the national average. Grades are also allocated to the attainment of the school (from A* to E*) in relation to 'all' schools nationally and 'similar' schools.
The information helps schools to look at their strengths and areas for development, and is designed to help them develop plans to raise standards. It uses data from DfES alongside information from Ofsted and QCA. It is also sent to Ofsted inspectors before they inspect a school.
The format of the PANDA is standard but the data in each one is specific to a particular school. They are widely used because schools can see at a glance how they compare with others, and do not have to calculate their own figures.
